Important Vastu Tips for Kitchen

A kitchen is a pivotal place of any Indian household from where we can get day-long energy. The placement of every single appliance in the kitchen has its own importance. It is believed that the kitchen is the ideal place to improve motivation and gain better health. Kitchens play a major role in every home, offering the home its happiness and health. All kinds of energies persist at home, but the kitchen is one place at home that grabs huge amounts of energy, good or bad. There are a few Vastu guidelines that should be applied to the kitchen if you want to enlighten your lifestyle and increase its aura in your home.

Why Vastu is essential to design your kitchen:

The kitchen is a place to reach everyone's heart in the family. The kitchen is often considered as a holy place after the Worship Room, has significance of its own. Its position in the residence decides the prosperity and progress of the house. Generally, the kitchen's Vastu depends on the location of the commodity, colour, and the direction in which it is constructed. Furthermore, Vastu for Kitchen states that homemakers should face the favorable direction while spending time in the kitchen preparing the food to attain good health, wealth and to be active. Vastu Shastra recommends that a kitchen designed according to Vastu rules brings contentment, luck, wealth, and abundance to the family. It is the source of joy and happiness that keeps away all the negative vibrations and evil from your house. Making a kitchen according to the Vastu guidelines has always been favorable for the family for ages.

Agni Tattva is the main element of the fire (Agni). Mars (Mangal) is the fire element and the kitchen is the place of fire. As Mars is the Deity/Divinity/God/Ruler of the Kitchen area, all kitchen essentials including pulses, spices, other grocery items, and kitchen tools including a knife, scissors, gas, microwave, induction, etc are the things that are related to Mars (Mangal). If you want to run your kitchen smoothly, then you need to follow the guidelines recommended by Vastu while designing a kitchen. Otherwise, if the planet Mars (Mangal) becomes violent, it might be the cause of food poisoning, fear for fire, injury, and accident for fire. So, it is essential to build a kitchen in the proper direction according to Vastu principles. An auspicious direction to place your kitchen is in the South-East direction which is known as Fire Zone (Agni kon) of the house. Venus (Sukra) is the God of the fire zone (agni kon), which is the representative of Bhagavati Annapurna. However, the kitchen is built in this direction, it is believed that there is no food shortage ever and food becomes delicious. If the kitchen area is built in the North-West direction, the digestive system of the occupants of the house is going smooth.Make sure, place the position of Gas towards in South-East direction. If it is not done, then it might be the reason for access expenses and accidents caused by fire.

Vayu Kon (Zone) can be used for Kitchen placement in the house. As the fire and the air, both are the friendly elements for Kitchen. According to Vastu, Varuna rules midway in between the north and the west direction. This direction plays an important role in making a person either rich or poor as per the allocation and utilization of the place. This direction can impact personal contacts and friendships. Also, this direction is best for business networking perspective, success in life, monetary gain, and blessed children with creativity in their projects.

It is important to make the Kitchen according to Vastu Shastra to evade health problems like lethal diseases, death, unwanted allergies, and illness, stay away from financial losses like bankruptcy, deterioration, and steer clear of family disputes like divorce, separation, etc. Vastu compliant Kitchen stands for the right placements of gas, water tap, cylinder, etc in the kitchen helping to balance the energy.

There are some rules that should be strictly followed while designing a kitchen.

How it should be installed:

  • Kitchen should be not placed directly below the worship room.
  • Platform of the kitchen should be built in East & South-East corner.
  • Put cooking gas burner or stove in South-East corner of the kitchen, make sure that it is away from the corner.
  • South walls should be used for operating microwave ovens, mixer,s and grinders in the kitchen.
  • West or North-East wall can be used to set up sink or washbasin but should not be used in South-West corner.
  • North-East or North direction should be used to keep drinking water and utensils for drinking water and west wall too.
  • Keep heavy or big grain boxes, pulses, various spices, salt, etc. in South or West.
  • Keep lightweight things in the East or North side in the kitchen.
  • In the northwest zone kitchen, the cook must always face towards East direction while cooking. This ensures the good health of family members.
  • Apply Orange, Rose, Chocolate, Pink or Red colours as Kitchen's floor and wall colours in the west direction of the Kitchen.
  • Place refrigerator in South-East, South, West direction of the kitchen. But, should not be placed in North-East corner.
  • As per Indian Culture, the first thing prepared in the kitchen should be given as a sacred offering to ensure peace and prosperity.
  • In the night before sleeping, the kitchen platform and utensils should be cleaned on daily basis.
  • Kitchen can be built in the south zone.
  • Utensils washing area should be in the east side of the Kitchen.
  • If the kitchen is not built in southeast zone then the red colour blub should be fixed in southeast zone which should be on all the time.
  • The kitchen (SE) flooring should not be down than rest of the flooring.
  • Tall units must be in southwest zone or south wall and avoid the north or east wall.

Things to Avoid:

  • Kitchen should not be built directly under or above the Pooja Room.
  • Directly under or above the bedroom, the kitchen should not be constructed. In the last case, only the guest bedroom can be considered.
  • Kitchen should not be in the North-East direction as it is a direction of water element (Jal Tattva). The five elements and Jal Tattva are anti elements so it causes dispute among family members, mental problems and results in great loss.
  • Kitchen in the North direction (Lord Kuber's Direction, the god of wealth) leads to maximize in expenditures of family beyond expectation and control.
  • East zone is known for stability. The kitchen can be placed in the east zone but that should be the last option.
  • Kitchen can be built in the south zone.
  • Do not make Pitra sthaan in the kitchen.
  • Avoid making kitchen in southwest direction. It might be the cause of too much expenses, monetary loss, and BP problem.
  • According to Vastu, the west direction is not recommended for the kitchen.
  • Black, blue and green colours must be avoided for kitchen wall and flooring.
  • Sink must not be on the south wall, nor in southeast corner or in south west corner.
  • Cloth washing area should not be in the kitchen.
  • Toilet should not be attached to the kitchen if there is not any place, then there should be an extra wall.
  • Kitchen must not be Sher (Lion) Mukhi.
  • Dining area should not be in the kitchen.
  • Kitchen should be closed, open kitchen is not recommended as per Vastu.
  • Kitchen should be in front of main door/gate
  • Toilet door should not be in front of the kitchen.
  • Gas burner/stove should not be in front of kitchen’s door.
  • Burner/stove on south/north wall causes knee problem for female member of the family.
  • Servant room can be above/under the kitchen.
  • Toilet line should not come under or above the kitchen.
  • Water tank must not be in, above, or under the kitchen.
  • Septic tank must not be near the kitchen.
  • Rainwater line should not pass from the kitchen.
  • Gas cylinders can be stored in the south or west side of the kitchen.
  • Electric meter should not be in the kitchen. It can be the cause of the fire.
  • Underground tank or water tank should not come in the kitchen area.
